Hardys VR Merlot — Riverland, South Australia, 13.5% ABV. Crafted from Riverland fruit — South Australia's warm-climate, reliable-yield region that produces generous fruit character year on year. Light crimson with a ruby core. The nose is immediately approachable: ripe plum, cherry, dried herbs, and a soft vanilla oak note from brief oak maturation. On the palate it is comfortably medium-bodied, with a generous plum-fruit centre alongside cloves, nutmeg, and a hint of cedar spice. Tannin structure is fine and undemanding, making it an easy pour for guests who find bigger reds overwhelming. Clean finish with mild persistence.

On-trade positioning: The VR range anchors the affordable end of an Australian red wine list without sacrificing Hardys brand credibility. The Merlot is particularly well suited to Asian restaurants — Chinese, Vietnamese, casual Japanese — where a softer-tannin red is preferred, as well as casual Western dining and events catering.
