Domaine de La Clapière Gatefer
Description
Domaine de La Clapière Gatefer — Pays d'Oc IGP, Languedoc, 14% ABV. Premium blend, vintage 2022. An unconventional and compelling blend: Cabernet Sauvignon 40%, Petit Verdot 30%, Syrah 30%. Harvested mechanically in the cool of late-night hours to preserve aromatic freshness, then vinified traditionally and matured in oak (50% new). Deep purple in the glass; the nose bursts with intense blueberry, blackberry and dark chocolate with a distinct mineral undercurrent. Structured and generous on the palate with fine-grained tannins and a long, satisfying finish. Excellent quality relative to price — a genuine benchmark for southern France at this level.
On-trade positioning: The premium mid-tier option from the La Clapière range — a step above house-pour quality for European wine bars, French restaurants and casual fine-dining outlets that want something more structured without paying Grand Cru prices. The unusual Petit Verdot component is a point of difference when described on a wine list. A strong candidate for 150ml glass pours at the premium tier.
