Description
Hitachino Nest Daidai Ale — Ibaraki, Japan, 6% ABV. Daidai (橙) is the bitter Japanese sour orange — a citrus variety with deep roots in Japanese cuisine and winter culture. Kiuchi Brewery uses Fukurai mandarin oranges grown in Ibaraki Prefecture alongside orange-aroma hop varieties to create an IPA with a distinctly Japanese citrus character. Pours hazy amber-gold; the nose is all fresh-squeezed orange rind, mandarin zest, and tropical hops. The palate balances a clean barley malt body with a bright, juicy citrus bitterness that builds to a refreshing, dry finish. At 6% ABV it is approachable enough for craft-curious guests unfamiliar with heavily hopped styles.
On-trade positioning: An excellent table beer for Japanese, Southeast Asian, and pan-Asian dining — the orange and mandarin notes pair broadly with spice-forward dishes, grilled proteins, and seafood.
